#EISDTeacherOfTheYear #EdgewoodProud Meet Alyssa Villalobos, the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year at Fine Arts Academy.

Alyssa grew up in San Antonio, Texas and pursued her undergraduate and graduate degrees at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She has been teaching in Edgewood ISD for seven years, beginning at Memorial High School and now, teaching Science at Fine Arts Academy. Every day is a new day to make a difference in her students, who she always looks forward to spending time with. "If I'm having a bad day, it gets better as soon as I'm with my students. I enjoy interacting with them and inspiring them to want to do better. Like when I was able to tell one of my students, who was struggling, that he passed a recent test and he told me, ‘You see, I tried!' They can do anything if they set their mind to it!"

Alyssa tells us that throughout her time as a teacher, it's the relationships she creates with her students that last a lifetime. "I enjoy building relationships with my students. A lot of my former students still come and visit me from time to time. I've been a class sponsor for two years helping with prom and fundraisers because it's rewarding just being able to create those relationships outside of my Science classroom." Teacher of the Year is something that Alyssa wasn't expecting but the way she found out she was nominated was unforgettable. "I was really happy! My former students asked if they could eat lunch with me and they were in my classroom when they made the announcement. Everybody just yelled with excitement and said, ‘Finally Ms. Villalobos!' It was really nice."

Join us in congratulating Alyssa, 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year at Fine Arts Academy!
